Men’s Soccer Falls To Coast Guard, 3-0, On Senior Night

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team lost to non-conference opponent Coast Guard, 3-0, Monday night at Reinhart Field. Prior to the game, the program honored its five, four-year seniors with a special Senior Night Ceremony for Chris Anderson (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor), Ryan Nugent (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic), Derek Nehring (Massapequa, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) (Massapequa, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran), Chris Knowlton (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Michael Vanadia (Commack, N.Y./Commack) (Commack, N.Y./Commack).
 
        The Bears improve to 11-4-1 on the season, while the Privateers fall to 8-11-1.
 
        Coast Guard controlled the action in the first half, outshooting Maritime 12-2 and taking a 2-0 advantage on goals in the 10th and 19th minutes. Both were scored by junior Joe Bodzewski. Freshman keeper Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made six saves in the first 45 minutes.
 
        The Privateers played much better in the second half, as they were only outshot by the Bears, 5-4. However, Coast Guard would score its third and final goal in the 67th minute, when senior Greg Kennerley found the back of the net.
 
        Junior John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) played the second half and made one save. The Bears' senior Will Leffler started the game between the pipes and made one save in over 73 minutes before being replaced by junior Carlos Gonzalez, who faced no Maritime shots and helped preserve the shutout.
 
        The Privateers will now wait to find out their first round opponent in the 2012 Skyline Conference Tournament. There is still one game to be played that has playoff implication and it is between Mount St. Mary and Yeshiva tomorrow night.
