YONKERS, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2012) – The Maritime men's soccer team defeated conference opponent Mount St. Vincent, 4-1, Tuesday night at Tibbetts Brook Park for the Privateers' first victory in over two weeks. The win improves Maritime to 5-6-1 (1-3 Skyline) on the season, while the Dolphins fall to 2-4-1.
Three freshmen tallied goals for the Privateers, while junior
David Sparozic (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) was the only non-rookie to find the back of the net. Freshman
Nick Mast (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) scored the first goal of the game in the 36th minute. He connected on a cross to the far post by classmate
Jon Dubowyk (Pennfield, N.Y./Pennfield) (Pennfield, N.Y./Pennfield), who earned the assist.
In the second half, Maritime took a 2-0 lead when freshman
Patrick McCarty (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway Jr.-Sr.) recorded his second goal of the season in the 52nd minute. It was assisted by senior
Chris Anderson (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway Jr.-Sr.). Mount St. Vincent would cut the lead in half, however, just five minutes later when freshman Andres Oceguera found the twine off a touch-pass by senior Joseph Rosado.
Sparozic added an insurance goal in the 69th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out and then Dubowyk put the game away with a shot that found a way under the crossbar off a pass by freshman
Kory Barone (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield).
In goal, junior
John Dunne (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, N.Y./Southold) earned the victory with three saves in over 60 minutes of action. He was replaced by freshman
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) for the final 29 minutes, who helped preserve the victory.
For the Dolphins, freshman goalkeeper Juan Alatriste made five saves in the losing effort.
The Privateers now have off until Saturday, Oct. 6, when they host NYU-Poly at Reinhart Field. First whistle is slated for 6 p.m.
