Box Score THROGS NECK, NY – The Privateer women's lacrosse team closed their 2009 on the road at Sage College, picking up a 15-9 victory to finish at 6th place in the conference standings. The Privateer's record improved to 3-10, 2-5, while the Gators ended at 1-9, 1-6.
Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) scored 6 goals while Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) and Krystyn Rutzel (Levittown, NY/Division Ave H.S.) each had 4. Christina George (Southold, N.Y./Southold) was responsible for the other Maritime goal.
The Privateers were down 2-0 early on in the game, but fought back to pull to an even 4-4 game at the 14:36 mark. Maritime pulled away, scoring the next two goals, but the Gators clawed back to tie the game at 7 with a little more than 3 minutes to play in the half. Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) gave the Privateers an 8-7 lead at the half, scoring her 3rd goal of the game with only 12 seconds showing.
The Privateers opened the second half with two straight, to take a 3 goal lead, which would prove to be enough to win. However, after Sage added a goal to bring it to 10-8, the Privateers rattled off 4 straight to take a commanding lead. The teams traded goals at the end, and Maritime closed with the 15-9 win.
Julianne Cona (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) got the win in net, saving 7 shots.
