NEWBURGH, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team held a 5-4 lead after three quarters in its season finale at Mount St. Mary on Tuesday night. However, the Knights (7-5, 6-2 Skyline) rallied for three unanswered goals in the fourth to notch a 7-5 win over the Privateers (2-9, 2-6 Skyline) at Kaplan Field.
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) opened the scoring with a free position goal at the 9:10 mark of the first quarter. Mount St. Mary responded with a pair of tallies before Grider tied it with 12:45 left in the second quarter. After Alejandra De Leon put the Knights in front, Grider connected with
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY), who found the back of the net with 38 seconds remaining until halftime.
Maritime took the lead on a free position score from
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) early in the third quarter, then
Alexa Nolan (Queens, NY) added another free position goal to put the Privateers up 5-3. Delisianna Naccarato cut the Maritime advantage to 5-4 with 16 seconds left in the third quarter before assisting on Kasey Senior's game-tying tally with 10:45 to go. Naccarato scored again at the 6:50 mark, which proved to be the winning goal in Mount St. Mary's eventual 7-5 victory.
Grider finished with three points on two goals and an assist. Garcia had five ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with her goal, while Nolan collected three ground balls.
Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY) paced the Privateers with four caused turnovers, and goalkeeper
Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (2-9) picked up a team-best six ground balls. She also made 10 saves.
For the Knights, Naccarato led the way with three goals and an assist. She added five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Senior, meanwhile, scored twice and controlled six draws. Peyton Curley (7-5) was credited with eight saves in the winning effort.
This season marks the first time since 2018 in which Maritime didn't qualify for the Skyline Tournament. The Privateers made four straight semifinal appearances from 2022-25.
