FARMINGDALE, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team traveled to Farmingdale for a Skyline Conference matchup on Friday. In the first game between the squads since last year's Skyline semifinals, the Rams (5-8, 4-1 Skyline) earned a 17-3 win over the Privateers (2-6, 2-3 Skyline) at Rams Field.
After Farmingdale opened up a 3-0 lead,
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) got Maritime on the board at the 8:35 mark of the first quarter. The Rams scored the next two goals, but
Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) found the back of the net with 1:01 left in the period to pull the Privateers within 5-2.
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) then made it a 6-3 game with 8:34 remaining until halftime.
However, Maritime would be held scoreless the rest of the way. Farmingdale extended its advantage to 9-3 at halftime, then outscored the Privateers 8-0 in the second half to close out a 17-3 victory.
In addition to scoring a goal, Grider paced Maritime with seven draw controls.
Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) controlled three draws, while
Alexa Nolan (Queens, NY) and
Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY) picked up three ground balls apiece. Goalkeeper
Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (2-6) was credited with 11 saves in a losing effort.
For the Rams, Emily Sohm notched nine points on five goals and four assists. Kailee Coppola and Jordyn Neu each finished with three goals and an assist. Rylee Valenzano scored twice and had six draw controls, while Carly Livingston recorded seven ground balls and five caused turnovers to go along with a goal and two assists. Farmingdale goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (5-8) made five saves.
On Wednesday, the Privateers conclude their home schedule against Mount St. Vincent (2-6, 2-3 Skyline) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Prior to the game, Maritime will honor its five-member senior class—Brandenstein, Pecoraro, Williams,
