KINGS POINT, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team paid a visit to defending Skyline Conference champion Merchant Marine on Saturday. The Privateers (2-8, 2-5 Skyline) were eliminated from contention for this year's Skyline Tournament with a 23-1 loss to the Mariners (9-3, 7-0 Skyline), who clinched the No. 1 seed, at Brooks Stadium.
Merchant Marine had an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and extended that advantage to 14-0 at halftime.
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) scored Maritime's only goal of the contest on a free position shot at the 13:00 mark of the third quarter before the Mariners tacked on four more to make it 18-1. Merchant Marine added five fourth-quarter tallies to cap a 23-1 victory.
Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) paced the Privateers with three ground balls, while
Daniella Jimenez (Copiague, NY) picked up two ground balls. Grider had a pair of draw controls, and
Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY) finished with two caused turnovers. In addition to posting two ground balls, goalkeeper
Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (2-8) made 10 saves.
Leslie Wysong tallied 10 points for the Mariners on five goals and five assists. She also recorded six ground balls and eight draw controls. Grace Picozzi notched six goals and three assists to go along with 11 draw controls and five ground balls, while Reese Ripley scored four times. Sarah Litz added three goals and three assists. Karianna Eagle (9-3) was credited with the win between the pipes.
There is one game remaining on Maritime's schedule. The Privateers wrap up the 2026 season with a 6 p.m. visit to Mount St. Mary (6-5, 5-2 Skyline) on Tuesday.
