Men's Cross Country Places Second; Women Eighth at Golden Eagle Invitational

The Maritime College men's cross country team put together their best race of the fall season to date as they placed second overall at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday afternoon.The women's team also put together a solid performance as they placed eighth overall.

The women were led by freshmen Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) and Rachel Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) once again, as both placed in the top 20. Both moved into the top-10 all-time in program history for a 6k race. Rebecca was the first Privateer to cross the finish line with a time of 20:05.3 in 18th place, while Rachel placed 20th with a time of 20:15.2. The times moved Maritime them into 3rd and 4th on the all-time list, respectively.

Next to cross the finish line was Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent), who finished with a time of 21:00.5 in 33rd. Next up was Charlotte Anich (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) with a time of 23:18.3, who was then followed by Celine Prenatt (Annapolis, Md./South River) and Katherine Schillat (Whitestone, NY/Saint Francis Preparatory School). The Privateers totaled 214 for eighth place, beating out fellow Skyline opponents, Sarah Lawrence, Old Westbury, and Mount Saint Vincent.

Leading the men's team was Jack Lehnhardt (Dunkirk, MD/Northern High School) and Sean Hobson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), who both finished in the top-five overall. Lehnhardt crossed the finish line at 27:13.5 in fourth place, while Hobson was right behind at 27:14.6. The times were good enough to move the duo to sixth and seventh all-time in 8k races for Maritime.

Kyle Pabalan (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) also added a fantastic peformance for Maritime as he finished in 13th with a time of 27:53.7. The fourth Privateer to finish the race was Patrick Wisti (Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) with a time of 28:02.3. Senior Marco Rosado (Lajas, Puerto Rico/Academia San Agustin y Espiritu Santo) placed 24th overall with a time of 28:16.4, while Kyle O'Brien (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was right behind him in 27th place. Austen Rohmann (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) rounded out the scorers for the Privateers with a time of 28:55.4 in 32nd place. 

"It was a tremendous result for us today," said assistant coach Ridge Robinson. "Our athletes have done an excellent job focusing on the day-to-day and blocking out our competition. Today showed us that we're positively trending in the right direction towards the conference championships."

Next up for the Privateers is the St. Joseph's Invitational at Kings Park, NY on October 19.
