KINGS POINT, NY – On April 26-27, the Maritime College sailing team participated in its final regatta of the Spring season—the Admiral's Cup, hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The Privateers tallied 329 points in the event to finish 17
th overall.
The weather conditions shifted throughout Saturday's competition, leading to several pauses while waiting for favorable wind. In the end, 10 races were completed in each division. On Sunday, high winds were the problem, and only two races were contested per boat.
Maritime's best results came on Sunday, with the "A" team of
Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) and
Tyler Mendes (Eastchester, NY) capturing ninth place in Race 11 and seventh in Race 12 with their 420. Lunati and
Nathaniel Hartwell (Daphne, AL) alternated as skipper every two races, while Mendes sailed in eight races and
Juliana Sarich (New York, NY) stepped in for the other four.
In the "B" division,
Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) teamed with
Andrew McCarthy (Hamden, CT) for all 12 races. Their best finish was eighth place in Race 9.
Overall, the Privateers recorded 165 points in the "A" division and 164 points in the "B" boat.
