THROGGS NECK, NY – Forward Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) of the Maritime College men's basketball team has been chosen as the 2024-25 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Year.  He becomes the first Privateer ever to receive an ECAC major award.

The Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Skyline selection, Devaney earned ECAC Rookie of the Year honors one day after being named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team.  He was chosen as the Skyline Rookie of the Week nine times this season, which is believed to be a single-season conference record.

Devaney ranked among the Skyline leaders in scoring (sixth, 16.9 ppg), rebounding (fourth, 7.6 rpg), blocks (third, 1.6 bpg) and field goal percentage (fourth, .463) while leading Maritime to a 16-11 record, including an 11-5 mark in conference play, and a berth in the Skyline Tournament semifinals.  He had 20 or more points 10 times and reached double figures in scoring in all but four of the Privateers' 27 games.  Devaney tallied 34 points, the third-highest single-game total in program history, against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Feb. 19 and recorded four double-doubles on the season.

An 85-year old organization with well over 200 members across all three NCAA Divisions, the ECAC selects postseason all-star teams in every sport that it sponsors.  Maritime's last ECAC honoree was Ryan Donovan, who was named Second Team All-ECAC in 2022-23.
