CHESTERTOWN, MD – Two weeks ago, the Maritime College dinghy sailing team began its Spring season with a podium finish at Washington College's Tom Noble Open Team Race. On March 15, the Privateers returned to Washington College and posted another solid showing. Maritime went 4-1 overall to capture second place in the team standings at the Washington Open Team Race.
Just like in the previous regatta, each school sailed head-to-head against all five opponents. The Privateers began the round robin with a victory over Princeton before improving to 2-0 by defeating Michigan. Despite
Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) and
Juliana Sarich crossing the line first, Maritime dropped its third race to St. Mary's (MD). The Privateers then finished off the event with wins against Fordham and Washington College.
Lunati and Sarich took first place in four of the five races (they were second against Michigan). Maritime's "B" boat featured
Isabelle Gautier (Pascagoula, MS) and
Grace Wilson (Lexington Park, MD), while
Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) and
Andrew McCarthy (Hamden, CT) sailed in the Privateers' third FJ.
Maritime wraps up the team racing portion of the schedule by hosting the Admiral Moore Team Race on March 22-23. It's the Privateers' only home regatta during the Spring season.
