Two Privateers Honored By Skyline Conference

THROGGS NECK, NY – Junior Andrew Heiderstadt (Farmingdale, NY) and freshman David Granucci (Medford, NY) of the Maritime College baseball team have been recognized by the Skyline Conference for their efforts in the Privateers' three wins last week.  Heiderstadt was chosen as the Skyline Pitcher of the Week, while Granucci was named Skyline Rookie of the Week.

Heiderstadt went 2-0 in two starts.  Against John Jay on Tuesday night, he tallied 11 strikeouts—including eight in a row at one point—over five innings.  The 11 K's were the fourth-most for a single game in school history.  Heiderstadt held the Bloodhounds to two runs on three hits and walked two in the 17-5 victory.  On Sunday against Union, he allowed just two hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work, as Maritime completed a doubleheader sweep with a 4-1 win.  Heiderstadt posted a 1.80 ERA for the week.

Granucci, meanwhile, hit a combined .750 (6-for-8) with five runs scored and seven RBIs in three contests.  He crushed the first two home runs of his collegiate career on Tuesday, belting a two-run shot to right center in the second before sending a grand slam over the right field wall in the fourth.  Granucci's six RBIs were one shy of the single-game program mark.  After drawing a walk and scoring a run in the first game of the twinbill with Union on Sunday, he had three hits, an RBI and a run scored in the nightcap.

The Privateers (3-6) wrap up a seven-game homestand by welcoming Baruch (1-8) to Reinhart Baseball Field on Sunday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
