THROGGS NECK, NY – After setting a record with nine Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week selections this season, freshman forward Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) of the Maritime College men's basketball team has been named Skyline Rookie of the Year.  He also earned a place on the All-Skyline First Team in voting conducted by the league's 12 head coaches.  Jake Murphy (Rockville Centre, NY), meanwhile, was named Second Team All-Skyline.

Devaney ranks among the Skyline leaders in scoring (seventh, 16.5 ppg), rebounding (fourth, 7.7 rpg) and blocks (third, 1.6 bpg).  His .462 field goal percentage, meanwhile, is sixth-best in the conference.  Devaney has scored 20 or more points nine times this season, including a career-high 34 (the third-highest single-game total in program history) against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Feb. 19.  He's also secured double-digit rebounds in six games and recorded four double-doubles.

The Privateers' first-ever Skyline Rookie of the Year, Devaney is also the first newcomer to be selected First Team All-Skyline since Yeshiva' Zevi Samet in 2022-23.  Maritime has now had a player receive a First Team nod three seasons in a row.  Ryan Donovan was chosen in 2022-23 and Murphy was recognized last year.

With his Second Team selection, Murphy becomes the first Privateer to earn multiple All-Skyline honors since Patrick MacDonald was named to the First Team three straight times from 2015-16 to 2017-18.  This season, he's averaging 15.2 points per contest, which ranks 10th in the league.  Murphy had a career-best 31 points against Notre Dame (MD) on Dec. 14 and has recorded four other 20-point efforts in 2024-25.  In addition, he leads Maritime with 46 three-pointers and 46 steals.  Murphy took home his first career Skyline Player of the Week award on Dec. 17.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the fourth-seeded Privateers (15-10, 11-5 Skyline) host fifth-seeded St. Joseph's LI (11-14, 10-6 Skyline) in the quarterfinals of the Skyline Tournament.  This marks the third consecutive season in which Maritime will open the postseason at Riesenberg Gymnasium.
