OLD WESTBURY, NY – On Friday, the Maritime College cross country team took on Skyline Conference rivals Old Westbury and Yeshiva head-to-head at the Old Westbury Halloween Invitational. Competing on a short course over 2.5 miles, the Privateer women defeated both the Panthers and Maccabees. The Maritime men's squad, meanwhile, earned a win over Old Westbury while falling to Yeshiva.
Cindy Chen (Huntington Station, NY) was the overall winner on the women's side. She was more than 20 seconds clear of the field, finishing in 17:02.
Emily Bryant (Hilliard, OH), competing in her third sport as many days after playing in the soccer game on Wednesday night and participating in Thursday's swim meet, was the second Privateer across the line. She placed fifth overall with a 19:59 clocking.
Eily Kochon (Ulster Park, NY) took sixth in 20:21, followed by
Clio Liff in seventh place (20:22).
Erin Doyle ended up ninth with a time of 20:29.
Maritime's team score of 28 points was first out of the three teams. In the head-to-head scoring, the Privateers beat Yeshiva 24-29 and earned a 19-36 victory over Old Westbury.
For the Maritime men,
Jack Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) led the way with a fourth-place showing. His time was 15:21.
Eric Schmidt (Woodbury, MN) grabbed sixth place in 16:08, while
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) finished eighth in 17:09.
Michael Abbamonte (Bohemia, NY) (ninth, 17:20) and
Matthew Harkin (Massapequa, NY) (10
th, 17:22) also earned top 10 finishes for the Privateers.
Overall, Maritime compiled 37 team points. The Privateers were just edged head-to-head by the Maccabees, 25-29, and swept places 2-6 in the matchup with the Panthers.
There's one meet remaining on Maritime's schedule. The Privateers head to the Hudson Valley Sports Dome for the ECAC North Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8.
