PURCHASE, NY – Cindy Chen (Huntington Station, NY) of the Maritime College women's cross country team earned Second Team All-Skyline Conference honors with her 11
th-place finish at the Skyline Championships on Sunday at Purchase College. As a team, the Privateers placed third overall. The Maritime men, meanwhile, took fifth in the team standings.
Chen snagged her Second Team All-Skyline nod by running 6000 meters in 26:12.9.
Nicole Mejia (Garden City, NY) also had a top 20 showing, finishing 18
th in 27:45.8.
Clio Liff captured 24
th place in 29:18.6, while
Eily Kochon's (Ulster Park, NY) time of 29:52.6 was good for 30
th place.
Erin Doyle crossed the line just five seconds later. She was 32
nd in 29:57.7.
Overall, the Privateers tallied 115 points for their fifth straight top-three team finish at the Skyline Championships. Sarah Lawrence won the Skyline title with 61 points, and Merchant Marine was second with 69 points. The Mariners' Eleanor Romeo claimed the individual title with a 24:21.9 clocking.
On the men's side, Maritime ended up fifth with 177 total points. Merchant Marine swept the top five places to secure its eighth consecutive Skyline Championship. The individual winner was the Mariners' Luke Zweisler, who completed the 8000-meter course in 26:11.6.
The Privateers' top finisher was
Michael Abbamonte (Bohemia, NY) in 23
rd place. His time was 30:37.2.
Angus Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) took 33
rd in 31:31.4, while
Eric Schmidt (Woodbury, MN) had a 39
th-place clocking of 32:15.1.
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) (40
th, 32:37.3) and
Matthew Harkin (Massapequa, NY) (42
nd, 33:01.0) followed closely behind to complete Maritime's scoring five.
Up next for the Privateers is the Old Westbury Halloween Invitational on Friday. The women's race gets underway at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at 11:45 p.m.
