Results: Men | Women
FARMINGDALE, NY – The Skyline Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday at Bethpage State Park. Led by four Second Team All-Skyline performers, the defending champion Maritime College women's squad took second overall. The Privateer men, meanwhile, placed sixth as a team.
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) and
Hannah Smith (Las Vegas, NV) were named Second Team All-Skyline for the second straight year, while
Nicole Mejia (Garden City, NY) earned an All-Skyline nod for the first time. That trio and
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) all finished within 30 seconds of each other, with only a runner from Sarah Lawrence breaking up the foursome.
Donnelly was Maritime's top finisher. She completed the 6000-meter course in 27:38.3, which was good for 11
th overall. Mejia placed 12
th in 27:43.2, and Smith took 14
th in 28:01.0. Cirelli just missed out on All-Skyline honors with her 15
th-place showing (28:09.1).
Livia Malmsten (Kullavik, Sweden) made it five Privateers in the top 20 by capturing 19
th place with a 28:35.7 clocking.
Maritime posted a team score of 70 points, which put the Privateers second in the team standings. Merchant Marine won the Skyline title with 58 total points.
On the men's side, Maritime had a team score of 160 points to place sixth overall. Merchant Marine also captured the men's championship with 21 points after putting all five of its scoring runners in the top 10.
Michael Abbamonte (Bohemia, NY) ran 8000 meters in 30:09.0, which was good for 26
th place.
C.J. Elwell (Charlestown, RI) was the next Privateer across the line, securing 29
th place in 30:28.4. He was followed by
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) in 31
st (30:52.8) and 35
th-place
Jack Queen (Mamaronek, NY) (31:29.5).
Benjamin Spellman (Hampton Bays, NY) rounded out Maritime's top five. He placed 39
th in a time of 32:52.6.
Up next for the Privateers is the season-ending ECAC North Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome on Saturday. The women's race gets underway at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's race at 11:15 a.m.
