NEWARK, NJ – The Maritime College men's and women's cross country teams took advantage of the fast course at Branch Brook Park to post season-best times across the board at the NJIT Invitational on Saturday.
Cindy Chen (Huntington Station, NY) placed 30
th overall in the women's race, while the Privateers finished 13
th as a team in the men's standings.
Chen ran 5000 meters in 20:54.2.
Emily Bryant (Hilliard, OH) was the next Maritime runner across the line. Her time of 23:35.5 was good for 60
th place.
Erin Doyle and
Clio Liff posted identical 24:44.8 clockings to grab 73
rd and 74
th place, respectively. Since only four Privateers were entered, Maritime didn't register a team score.
On the men's side,
Angus Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) led the way. He placed 61
st after completing the 8000-meter course in 30:36.6. The Privateers were tightly bunched at the front, with
Michael Abbamonte (Bohemia, NY) finishing 63
rd in 30:40.1 and
Jack Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) taking 64
th in 30:42.0.
Eric Schmidt (Woodbury, MN) (94
th, 32:58.5) and
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) (100
th, 33:50.1) completed Maritime's scoring quintet. Overall, the Privateers posted a team score of 382 points.
Up next for Maritime is the St. Joseph's LI Invitational at Sunken Meadow Park on Saturday, Oct. 18. The women's race gets underway at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at 12 p.m.
