MILTON, NY – The Maritime College men's and women's cross country teams concluded the 2024 season on Saturday by participating in the ECAC North Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome. Less than a week after taking second at the Skyline Conference Championships, the Privateer women earned another podium finish with a third-place showing. The Maritime men, meanwhile, were seventh as a team.
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) completed the 6000-meter course in 29:20.7, which was good for 17
th place.
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) crossed the line 18
th in 30:36.0, while
Hannah Smith (Las Vegas, NV) finished 19
th with a time of 31:31.7.
Caravel Losch (Butler, PA) (22
nd, 33:08.5) and
Eily Kochon (Ulster Park, NY) (26
th, 34:05.8) rounded out Maritime's top five.
With a total score of 102 points, the Privateers ended up third overall. It was Maritime's second time in three years making the podium at the ECAC Championships. (The Privateers were second in 2022 before finishing fifth last season.) Vassar had the top seven finishers and posted a perfect team score of 15 points.
On the men's side,
C.J. Elwell (Charlestown, RI) led the way. He finished 31
st with an 8000-meter time of 32:11.6.
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) was just behind his teammate, taking 32
nd with a 32:37.7 clocking.
Michael Abbamonte (Bohemia, NY) and
Jack Queen (Mamaroneck, NY) crossed the line nearly together. Abbamonte placed 37
th in 34:19.4, with Queen following in 38
th (34:23.9).
Benjamin Spellman (Hampton Bays, NY), meanwhile, ended up 42
nd in 35:15.8.
Maritime posted a team score of 180 points. Hartford placed all five of its scoring runners in the top nine and won the team title with 24 points.
This year marked the first time that the ECAC Championships were divided into North and Mid Atlantic regions. Previously, there was only one race combining both regions.
