THROGGS NECK, NY – After tying a single-game program record with three touchdown catches in the Maritime College football team's 32-27 win over Anna Maria on Saturday, junior wide receiver
Nate Casaburi (Sayville, NY) has been chosen as the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Casaburi finished with 11 receptions for 136 yards in the victory.
His first touchdown came on the opening play of the second quarter, when Casaburi raced 54 yards for the score. On Maritime's next drive,
Steven Stassi (East Islip, NY) connected with Casaburi for a nine-yard strike that gave the Privateers a 12-7 lead. Midway through the third quarter, Stassi found Casaburi in the end zone for a third time. The 13-yard touchdown increased Maritime's advantage to 26-7, as the Privateers put together five consecutive TD drives.
Casaburi becomes the fourth player in program history with four receiving touchdowns in a game—joining Curtis Smith, Brandonn Drumgole and
Pat Quinn. His 11 catches, meanwhile, are the fourth-most in a game by a Privateers receiver, trailing only Drumgole, who had 13 twice, and Christian Castle (12).
The Privateers (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) begin conference play on Saturday, when they host rival Merchant Marine (2-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) at 12 p.m. It will be the Mariners' first trip to Reinhart Field since 2021.
