Results: MAISA Women's Fall Open | War Memorial
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – One week after the Maritime College offshore sailing team concluded its fall season, the dinghy squad finished its campaign with a pair of championship events on Oct. 26-27. The Privateers took part in the MAISA Women's Fall Open, hosted by Old Dominion University, while the War Memorial, the open championship regatta, was held at St. Mary's University Maryland.
At the War Memorial, Maritime finished with a total score of 476 points, which was good for 14
th place.
Nathaniel Hartwell (Daphne, AL) skipped the "A" boat alongside
Tyler Mendes (Eastchester, NY), and the pair tallied 231 points in their FJ. Their best result was sixth place in Race 5, while they also had a pair of eighth-place finishes in Races 4 and 18.
In the "B" division, the Privateers scored 245 points. The duo of
Jeremy Lunati (Stony Brook, NY) and
Luke Barker (Rocky River, OH) took fourth in Race 11. Barker and Lunati traded off as the boat's skipper, with
Andrew McCarthy (Hamden, CT) and
Ash Clements (Garland, TX) also seeing action across the 18-race series.
The Privateer women, meanwhile, returned to the MAISA Women's Fall Open for the first time since 2021. Maritime ended up 13
th overall with 292 total points.
Nicole Ostapowicz (Amityville, NY) and
Eva Leggett (Brookhaven, NY) grabbed sixth in the opening race of the "A" division. They also finished eighth in Race 9. In the "B" division, meanwhile, the Privateers had four top 10 placements over 13 races.
Isabelle Gautier (Pascagoula, MS) and
Grace Wilson's (Lexington Park, MD) best result was sixth place in Race 11. They also had a pair of seventh-place efforts in Races 4 and 9, as well as a ninth-place showing in Race 5.
Maritime begins the Spring portion of its schedule on the weekend of March 1-2.
