Maritime Hosting College Sailing Forum On Jan. 19

1/2/2024 3:37:00 PM

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College sailing program, along with the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound, is excited to play host to the 2024 College Sailing Forum on Jan. 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  This free event will take place both in-person at the Maritime Academic Center Multi-Purpose Room and via Zoom.

There will be a one-hour presentation for both the in-person and Zoom audiences, followed by a one-hour meet & greet with college coaches for those attending in-person.  In addition to Maritime, colleges scheduled to appear include Princeton, Fordham, Stony Brook, Boston University and Hobart & William Smith, with more to be confirmed.

During the first hour, high school-aged sailors interested in college sailing will get the opportunity to learn from college coaches, alumni and current sailors about a number of topics.  Some of the subjects covered will be: The Structure of College Sailing, Types of College Sailing, Women's Sailing, Tips for Talking to College Sailing Coaches, The College Sailing Experience, Balancing College Sailing with Academics and Student Life (How to be a Student-Athlete), as well as Q&A opportunities.  The Zoom link will be sent to all registrants the day before the event.

Following the presentation will be a meet & greet, which is geared towards juniors and seniors, but open to all those in attendance.  The meet & greet will give sailors an opportunity to speak one-on-one with the college coaches to learn more about their individual programs and implement some of the practices they just learned.  Even if sailors cannot attend the meet & greet, they can elect to share their contact information with the coaches in attendance and be added to any recruiting lists during the registration process.
