THROGGS NECK, NY – Two Maritime College baseball players have been selected All-Region by both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com. Third baseman
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY) earned First Team All-Region honors from both organizations, while outfielder
Matt Milone (Farmingville, NY) was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team and added a Second Team All-Region nod from D3baseball.com.
Forgione was voted Second Team All-Region by each organization in 2022. This season, he hit .365 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs. Forgione ranked third in the Skyline Conference in homers and second in RBIs. He also set a program record with 17 doubles and finished third in the league with 47 runs scored. Forgione was named First Team All-Skyline for the second straight season after helping the Privateers reach the championship round of the Skyline Tournament for the first time since 2017.
Milone received Skyline Co-Player of the Year honors after leading the league in home runs (15), RBIs (55) and doubles (17). All three of those marks were program records, and he also established a new Maritime standard with four triples. Milone finished second in the league in both slugging percentage (.848) and OPS (1.317) to go along with a .366 batting average. He became the first Privateer ever to hit for the cycle at FDU-Florham on April 18.
This marks the first time since 2017 that Maritime boasted a First Team All-Region selection from either the ABCA or D3baseball.com. That year, Brian McLaughlin was named to both squads, while Stephen Semler was also on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team for the Privateers' Skyline championship squad.
D3baseball.com has chosen an All-Region Team in 10 different regions each year since 2012, with the exception of 2020. The ABCA, meanwhile, has selected All-Region and All-America teams, which are voted on by member coaches, since 1949.
