MILTON, NY – Two weeks after both finishing second at the Skyline Conference Championships, the Maritime College men's and women's cross country teams returned to the Hudson Valley Sports Dome for the ECAC Championships. Led by three top 10 finishers, the Privateer women earned second place in the team standings. The Maritime men, meanwhile, took fourth as a team.
Running in unseasonable conditions that were more reminiscent of an early season meet than an early-November championship, the women's squad placed all five of its scorers in the top 20 and finished with 47 points, just six behind St. Joseph's LI for the team title. The second-place showing was Maritime's best ever ECAC Championships result.
Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX) completed the 6000-meter course in 27:04.7 to finish sixth overall.
Adelle Leger (Middletown, NY) was ninth in 27:35.3, while
Rachel Zareva's (Allen, TX) time of 28:46.6 was good for 11
th place.
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) captured 16
th place with a 30:38.2 clocking, and
Caravel Losch (Butler, PA) grabbed 20
th place in 31:47.4.
Maritime also had a pair of top 10 finishers on the men's side.
Jack Lehnhardt (Dunkirk, MD) was fourth in 29:07.8 and
Jake Mundok (Lewes, DE) placed ninth in 29:27.0.
Jonah Yonks (Mount Sinai, NY) ran 8000 meters in 32:42.5 to finish 35
th overall, while
Declan O'Connor (Westfield, NJ) and
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NY) crossed the line back-to-back. O'Connor ended up 40
th in 33:06.5, followed by Lorino in 41
st place with a 33:17.0 clocking.
As a team, the Privateers tallied 126 points, just two ahead of fifth-place St. Joseph's LI and only four behind NJCU for third place. Vassar claimed the men's ECAC team championship with 52 points.
This marked the final team event of the season. Maritime will conclude the campaign next week by sending several individuals to the NCAA Niagara Regional in Rochester, NY.
