PATCHOGUE, NY – The Maritime College women's swimming & diving team began its season by taking on John Jay, Sarah Lawrence and host St. Joseph's LI at the Danzi Athletic Center Pool on Saturday afternoon. The meet was scored as a separate dual meet against each opponent. The Privateers defeated John Jay, but fell to both Sarah Lawrence and St. Joseph's LI.
Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY) was Maritime's top individual performer. She took third overall in the 50 yard freestyle (28.56), fourth in the 100 yard freestyle (1:03.32) and fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:28.98).
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) finished third in that event, posting a time of 1:24.42. She was also third in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:14.54) and fourth in the 200 yard individual medley (2:52.02).
Meanwhile, the 200 yard medley relay squad of
Lauren Clary (Bethlehem, GA),
Marilyn Peterson (Whitney Point, NY),
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) and
Jessica Magee (Smithtown, NY) notched a 2:25.81 clocking, which was good for third place. Individually, Cirelli placed third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:13.09).
In the dual meet scoring, Maritime earned a 91-81 victory John Jay. The Privateers dropped a 113-55 decision to Sarah Lawrence, while St. Joseph's LI topped Maritime by a score of 121-65.
Maritime will have nearly two full weeks off before returning to competition. The Privateers travel to Western Connecticut for a dual meet on Nov. 11 that will also be the men's team's first competition of the season.
