LOGAN TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Maritime College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action on Saturday at the Rowan Interregional Border Battle. Competing against an incredibly strong field of some of the strongest Division III programs in the Northeast, the Privateer women placed 30
th out of 35 teams. The Maritime men, meanwhile, finished 33
rd out of 36 in the team standings.
On the women's side,
Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX) led the way. She ended up 138
th with a time of 25:36.2, the seventh-fastest 6000-meter clocking in program history. Zareva now owns three of the top seven spots on Maritime's all-time list.
Adelle Leger (Middletown, NY) took 160
th in 26:13.5, while
Rachel Zareva's (Allen, TX) time of 26:43.5 was good for 173
rd place.
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) finished 201
st in 28:43.5.
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) was Maritime's fifth scoring runner. She captured 214
th place with a 31:11.0 clocking.
Caravel Losch (Butler, PA), meanwhile, placed 216
th in 32:14.9.
As a team, the Privateers collected 886 points to finish 30
th. Geneseo edged Carleton by one point (37-38) for the women's team title.
Maritime's men finished with a team score of 1017 points, which placed the Privateers 33
rd out of 36 squads. RPI put four in the top 10 to easily capture first place in the team standings.
Jake Mundok (Lewes, DE) paced the Privateers with a 178
th-place showing. He ran 8000 meters in 28:53.2.
Jack Lehnhardt (Dunkirk, MD) was 187
th in 29:12.7, while
C.J. Elwell's (Charlestown, RI) 30:03.8 clocking placed him 199
th overall.
Declan O'Connor (Westfield, NJ) and
Pietro Lorino (West Nyack, NJ) crossed the line back-to-back, with O'Connor taking 226
th place (33:08.8) and Lorino 227
th (33:35.2).
Ryan Salvia (Miller Place, NY) (230
th, 34:15.7) and
Dean Butkiewicz (Middle Village, NY) (234
th, 37:08.9) rounded out Maritime's top seven.
This was the Privateers' final meet before the Skyline Conference Championships, which will take place at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome on Oct. 23. Maritime was picked first (women) and second (men) in the Skyline Preseason Poll.
