HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA – After getting off to a strong start last weekend at the Army Open, the Maritime College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action on Saturday at the Penn State Abington Invitational. The women's squad finished with the same team score as Pratt, but ended up third in the team standings on a tiebreaker. The Privateer men, meanwhile, placed fourth out of 13 teams in race at Lorimar Park.
Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX) and
Rachel Zareva (Allen, TX) finished 10
th and 11
th overall in the women's race. Rebecca ran 5000 meters in 24:15.9, while Rachel posted a time of 24:47.8.
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) was 16
th in 25:25.9, and
Charlotte Anich (Flushing, NY) ended up 24
th with a 26:59.9 clocking.
Caravel Losch (Butler, PA) was Maritime's fifth scorer. Her time of 27:34.2 was good for 32
nd place.
As a team, Maritime tallied 93 points to tie Pratt for second place. However, Pratt won the tiebreaker (which is a head-to-head comparison of each team's five scorers) 3-2, which officially put the Privateers third in the team standings. Ursinus had the top four individual finishers and easily captured the team title with 17 points.
On the men's side, three Privateers finished in the top 10, led by
Jack Lehnhardt's (Dunkirk, MD) fourth-place showing. He completed the 8000-meter course in 29:00.7.
Colby James Elwell (Charlestown, RI) was eighth in 29:37.2, followed by
Jake Mundok (Lewes, DE) in ninth place (29:59.0).
Jonah Yonks (Mount Sinai, NY) ended up 25
th overall in 32:00.9, while
Declan O'Connor (Westfield, NJ) rounded out Maritime's scoring five with his 41
st-place finish (35:02.0).
The Privateers collected 87 team points, which was good for fourth place. Ursinus also won the men's team title with a score of 39 points.
Maritime will return to Pennsylvania for its next meet, Lehigh's Paul Short Run on Friday.
