Michael Glancy Named Head Men's Soccer Coach

After serving as the interim head men's soccer coach in the Fall of 2020, Michael Glancy is set to remove the interim tag and take over the Privateers men's soccer program heading into the 2021 season. Glancy served as the assistant coach since the 2017 season, before stepping in as the interim this past fall.

In the 2017 season Maritime picked up 11 total wins with a 5-3-1 record in conference play and then in the 2018 season, Glancy helped Maritime finish 7-2-1 in Skyline Conference action and earn the #2 seed for playoffs. The following year the Privateers improved upon their playoff performance and ran the table as the #6 seed behind two overtime victories and a shoot-out win in the semifinals. Unfortunately, Glancy and Maritime didn't have the chance to defend their title in 2020 due to COVID-19, but they are ready to get back in action this fall.

"It's very exciting heading into the fall," said coach Glancy. "It's very exciting heading into the fall. The guys are chomping at the bit to get out there and play and they're really intent on defending their championship after they didn't get the chance to last fall.

Prior to Maritime, Glancy picked up over 10 years of soccer coaching experience, including two seasons as the head coach of Transit Tech High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. He also has been a coach and board member of the Deer Park Soccer Club in Suffolk County on Long Island. In addition to his soccer experience, Glancy currently serves as a physical education and health teacher with the New York City Department of Education. He has held positions at Susan B. Anthony Intermediate School, as well as Intermediate School 231 and Collaborative Arts Middle School 355. Throughout his professional career, he has also held a role in the Boys and Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich, and served 15 years as an Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter in Deer Park on Long Island.

"We are very excited to bring Coach Glancy back to lead the men's soccer program after their conference title in 2019," said Interim Director of Athletics Mike Berkun. "Coach Glancy helped lead the team through a very difficult fall during COVID and proved his ability to succeed and coach the team on the field as an assistant for three years prior. I look forward to watching the team defend the title this coming fall!"
