JAMAICA, NY – On Tuesday afternoon, the Maritime College men's soccer team took on Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference contest at the York College Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Maccabees (3-3-2, 0-3-2 Skyline) scored the game's first goal before
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) netted two second-half tallies to give the Privateers (3-5-2, 2-2-2 Skyline) a 2-1 triumph and extend Maritime's unbeaten streak to three straight.
After a scoreless first half, Maritime went down to 10 men when
Finn Richmond (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) was issued a red card early in the second half. Yeshiva took advantage in the 49
th minute, when Franco Busso snuck one past
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY). In the 73
rd minute, the Privateers found an equalizer on a Blanco header. He then put Maritime ahead with an 82
nd-minute penalty kick. The 2-1 win was the Privateers' first over the Maccabees since 2019.
With his brace, Blanco moved into the team lead with five goals on the season.
Jack Young (Floral Park, NY) was credited with an assist on the opening tally in his return from injury. Slovensky (3-5-2) made one save in the victory.
Yeshiva goalkeeper Ran Nachlieli (1-1-1) finished with two saves. Busso's goal was his conference-leading 10
th of the year. Miles Form had the assist on his tally.
Maritime is back in action on Friday night, when Old Westbury (4-6-1, 3-3-0 Skyline) visits Reinhart Field at 7:30 p.m. The contest will follow the women's game between the Privateers and Panthers, which gets underway at 5 p.m.
