THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team (4-6-2) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Lehman (3-3-4) in the non-conference finale at Reinhart Field on Monday afternoon. Despite being played on the Privateers' home field, the contest was considered a Lightning home game.
Lehman got on the board first in the 14
th minute, when Ibrahim Kone put one past
Jeremiah Bolton (Brooklyn, NY). Despite outshooting Maritime 10-2 in the first half, the Lightning's lead was still just 1-0 at halftime. Ashraf Abubakar then doubled Lehman's advantage in the 51
st minute. It would remain that way until the Privateers pulled within 2-1 on
Jeferson Blanco's (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) 72
nd-minute tally. Maritime had two late chances at an equalizer, but Lehman goalkeeper Matthew Strainz made the save each time to preserve the Lightning's 2-1 triumph.
Blanco, who was named Skyline Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, found the back of the net for the third straight game. He has scored six of the Privateers' last seven goals overall and now has nine tallies on the season.
Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH), meanwhile, was credited with his second assist of the year. Bolton made his first collegiate start in net and recorded three saves over the first 45 minutes.
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY) (4-6-2) played the second half and took the loss. He notched one save.
For Lehman, Kone netted his second goal of the year and Abubakar's game-winner was his third tally this season. Straniz (3-3-3) finished with five saves in the victory, including four in the second half.
Three of Maritime's four remaining regular season contests are on the road. The Privateers (3-2-2 Skyline) begin the string by visiting Merchant Marine (5-2-7, 4-0-4 Skyline) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
