Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Privateers Earn Clutch Point at Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, NY – On Friday night, the Maritime College men's soccer team traveled to Merchant Marine for a Skyline Conference matchup.  After the Mariners (5-3-8, 4-0-5 Skyline) scored in the 60th minute, Yakob Muller (Mineola, NY) netted the equalizer for the Privateers (4-6-3, 3-2-3 Skyline) less than two minutes later, as the sides played to a 1-1 draw at Bartoszek Field.

Merchant Marine had one shot hit the post and another bang off the crossbar before finally breaking through for the game's first goal in the 60th minute.  Cal Lutz took a feed from Drew Lutz and put it into the back of the net to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.  Maritime immediately responded, however.  Muller slipped one past Merchant Marine goalkeeper Ethan Howell in the 62nd minute, leveling the score at 1-1.  That's how it would remain, as each side came away with a point in the standings.

Muller's tally was his third of the season.  Privateers goalkeeper Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY) (4-6-3), meanwhile, finished with five saves.  Howell (2-1-5) made three saves for the Mariners, and Lutz scored for the fifth time this year.

With the result, Maritime now has 12 points with three games remaining.  The Privateers are currently tied for fourth place, three points clear of Old Westbury for a spot in the six-team Skyline Tournament.

Maritime returns to Reinhart Field on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. matchup against Purchase (1-10-3, 0-4-3 Skyline).  The Privateers will honor their graduating seniors prior to the contest, which is their final home game of the season.
