MILTON, NY – The Maritime College women's cross country team had the best result at the Skyline Conference Championships in program history on Sunday. Led by
Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX) and
Rachel Zareva (Allen, TX), who were both named First Team All-Skyline, the Privateers placed second in the team standings. Maritime's previous best team finish was third place in 2011.
Rebecca Zareva took fourth individually after completing the 6000-meter course at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in 26:28.7.
Rachel Zareva, meanwhile, finished fifth in a time of 26:38.6. This marks the second time that the sisters have earned all-conference honors. They were both Second Team All-Skyline selections in 2019 (the last time the meet was contested).
Charlotte Anich (Flushing, NY) was Maritime's third finisher. She placed 17
th overall in 29:48.9.
Caravel Losch (Butler, PA), meanwhile, grabbed 27
th place in a time of 31:36.1.
Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) clinched second place in the team standings for the Privateers by taking 31
st in 33:01.0.
Maritime's team score of 76 points was just seven better than third-place Merchant Marine, the defending champions. St. Joseph's (LI) placed all five of its scorers in the top 10 to win its first Skyline Championship with 30 points. The individual winner was Merchant Marine's Sayra Raya, who recorded a time of 25:54.2.
There's one meet remaining on the Privateers' 2021 schedule. Maritime returns to the Hudson Valley Sports Dome for the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6.
