The Maritime College women's swimming and diving teams split a tri-meet with Queens College and St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Wednesday night. The Privateers defeated St. Joseph's by a score of 125-45, but fell to the Knights 101-86.
In the opening 200-yard medley relay race, Maritime took the first and third with the team of
Hannah Mesones (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo),
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial),
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), and
Emma Haedrich (West Islip, NY/West Islip/) placing in the top spot with a time of 2:19.23. In the third slot was
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent),
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep),
Bridget Stack (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle), and Olivia Grabber with a time of 2:35.12. Brow then added another first-place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:40.33.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Haedrich earned a second-place with a time of 29.23, while Sabrina Zapson finished fourth. The 100-yard butterfly followed and Haedrich and Stack finished second and third, respectively. In the 100-yard freestyle, Champlin and
Anna Curran (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place with times of 1:07.03, and 1:09.44, respectively.
Neely kept the momentum going for the Privateers in the 100-yard backstroke as she placed second with a time of 1:30.88. In the final swimming event of the meet, Maritime placed first behind the team of
Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY/St. Ferry), Grabber, Brow, and Thompson with a time of 1:59.91 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the one-meter diving event,
Macy Blakeley (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) scored a 157.35.
The Privateers turn to the Metropolitan Championships next on February 20th at Rutgers.
