Maritime Baseball's Game Winning Play Goes Viral

Sports Illustrated, SportsCenter, MLB Network, MLB.com, CBS Sports, and many more media outlets have shared Maritime baseball's game winning play from this past Sunday against Plattsburgh State. The video, captured by HiCast Sports, has made its rounds on cable TV and social media amassing hundreds of thousands of views.

With two outs in the top of the final inning and leading by one run, Privateers pitcher Matthew Paghidas (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) caught the Cardinals baserunner off balance in a big lead on second base. The runner took off for third and the throw to second base escaped into the outfield allowing the game-tying to have a chance at scoring. Shane Sullivan (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Chaminade) quickly picked up the loose ball and hurled it towards home plate. Unfortunately, the throw sailed over Jake Vera's (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) head and it appeared the game would be tied up. Luckily, Vera was able to play the ball off the backstop and tag the runner after he missed home plate on the initial slide attempt.

Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, and Starting 9 have all shared the video on Instagram and it has combined for over 255,000 views and counting!

MLB Cut 4, Foul Pole Sports, HiCast Sports, and Sports Illustrated have shared the clip on Twitter and it has combined for over 235,000 views and counting!

MLB Network showed the video on their morning show, Hot Stove, and wrote an article on mlb.com. SportsCenter also shared the video on their SnapChat this morning.
