MARSHFIELD, MASS - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced on the All-Conference teams on Thursday afternoon. The Maritime College football team picked up an impressive 17 awards, including
Michael Korwan (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) being named the Offensive Lineman of the Year and
Joseph Gagliardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) being named Special Teams Player of the Year.
The first team honorees included Korwan and Gagliardi (punter and kicker), as well as
Hezekiah Williamson (Albany, NY/Albany),
Wayne Betencourt (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman),
Liam Bailey (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), and
Justin Snuffer (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade). Second-Team selections included
Marc Laurenti (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East),
Dennis Hanley (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), and
Jabari Corsfield (Ozone Park, N.Y./Jamaica). Rounding out the Privateer honorees by making the honorable mention team is
Christian Schiavone (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains),
Frank Vano (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon),
Andrew Geni (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac),
Salvatore Escaldi (Farmingville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), and
Tayler Trapani (Waveland, Miss./St. Stanislaus).
Michael Korwan (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh)Â has been a vital part of the offensive line for seasons as a Privateer and has now capped off his career with the Offensive Lineman of the Year award. Last season, he was named to the Second-Team All-ECFCÂ as well as the All-Academic Team. His production continued on the offensive line as the team rushed for 1884 yards and only allowed 12 sacks on the season. Korwan also scored a touchdown for the Privateers in their NCAA tournament clinching win over Gallaudet a few weeks ago.
Joseph Gagliardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North)Â has hade a huge 2019 season as he opened up the year with a game-winning 43-yard field goal against Maine Maritime. He then continued his clutch play in a 13-10 overtime win against Anna Maria, where he hit a game-tying 37-yard field goal with 17 seconds left, and then a game-winning 29-yard field goal in overtime. He is currently 128 yards shy of setting the single-season record for punt yards and is at the top of the record books for field goal percentage at 87.5 percent. He has 12 punts pinned inside the 20-yard line and four punts of over 50 yards.
Hezekiah Williamson (Albany, NY/Albany) was a huge addition to the Privateer backfield in 2019 as he totaled 737 yards on 145 attempts to lead all Maritime rushers. He also picked up a team-high six touchdowns and a long carry of 70 yards. He rushed for over 100 yards four times in the season against Dean, Castleton, Gallaudet, and Alfred State.
Liam Bailey (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) continued his dominance at the linebacker position in 2019 as he led the Privateers with 90 tackles. He was second in the conference in total tackles as well as tackles per game. He tallied seven tackles for loss as well as an interception. He is second all-time in program history in total tackles as well as solo tackles. His 35 assisted tackles so far this season were good enough to vault him into first all-time in assisted tackles. This will mark his third All-Conference nod from the ECFC after earning Second-Team his sophomore season and First-Team in 2018.
Justin Snuffer (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) capped off his stellar four-year career as a defensive back with a First-Team nod in 2019. He is currently tied for second-all time in total interceptions and first all-time in interception return yards. He picked up an impressive 71 tackles in 2019, good enough for second most on the team, as well as tying Bailey for solo tackles at 55. His season was highlighted by a game changing interception in the season opener against Maine Maritime as well as an interception and forced fumble against Alfred State. In 2018, he was named Second Team All-ECFC as well as earning ECFC All-Academic Team honors.
Wayne Betencourt (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) rounds out the first-team selections for Maritime after his impressive senior campaign as a defensive lineman. He was named the Defensive Player of the Week after the Privateers 13-10 overtime victory against Anna Maria, where he picked up 3.5 tackles for loss totaling 17 yards. He finished the game with 11 tackles and helped lead Maritime's defense to back-to-back conference games of holding their opponents to 10 points or less. He led the Privateers in tackles for loss on the season with 10.5 for a total of 56 yards. Betencourt also finished with a team-high five sacks, including a game-winning safety against Mount Saint Joseph in the last game of the regular season.
Marc Laurenti (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East)Â joins Korwan as the second Privateer on the All-Conference in 2019 with a second-team nod. Laurenti made the switch from defensive to offensive line during his four-year career and has been an integral part of Maritime's run game and pass protection this season. Laurenti helped the Privateers pick up the third most rushing yards in conference play this season as well as earn the second most average time of possession.
Dennis Hanley (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) earned his first all-conference nod of his four-year career with a second-team nod. Hanley has been a vital member of the defensive line in 2019 as he has picked up 24 tackles with 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss. His impact on the defense has gone far beyond the stat line as he has been a constant disruptor in the pass and run game of opponents.
Jabari Corsfield (Ozone Park, N.Y./Jamaica) rounds out the second-team honorees after another impressive season at the linebacker positon. He finished the regular season tied for third in tackles with 54, and closed out the season in impressive fashion. Against Alfred State and Mount Saint Joseph he picked up an interception, and against the Lions he also made crucial stops on late-down situations.
