MILTON, NY - The Maritime College cross country teams competed at the cross country championships on Thursday afternoon and the rookies for both teams performed well as the women finished in fifth place and the men placed fourth. Freshmen
Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) and
Rachel Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) both earned Second-Team All-Conference nods as they led the women's team to their best finish since 2011, and freshman
Jack Lehnhardt (Dunkirk, MD/Northern High School) earned the Second-Team nod for the men who finished in fourth.
In tough course conditions with rain and mud,
Rebecca Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) and
Rachel Zareva (Allen, TX/Allen ISD High School) led the way for the Privateers in the 6k race. Rachel placed 11th overall with a time of 27:37.3 and Rebecca finished in the top-10 at 9th overall with a time of 27:20.4.
Right behind the freshmen duo, was senior captain
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent)Â who placed 20th with a solid time of 28:37.0.
Charlotte Anich (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) was the next Maritime runner to finish the difficult course as she placed 50th over with a time of 32:56.3. Right behind Anich was
Elizabeth Payne (Villas, N.J./Cape May Technical) and
Celine Prenatt (Annapolis, Md./South River)Â who finished 58th and 62nd, respectively. Closing out the Privateers best finish since 2011, was Abby Steele and
Katherine Schillat (Whitestone, NY/Saint Francis Preparatory School)Â who finished with times of 36:03.7 and 38:10.7.
On the men's side, Lehnhardt finished strong to earn the Second-Team nod with a 14th place finish and a time of 29:40.8. Also picking up a top-20 finish for the Privateers was
Kyle Pabalan (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and
Sean Hobson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), who placed 16th and 19th, respectively. Pabalan crossed the line at 29:53.4, while Hobson closed out his impressive Skyline Conference career at 30:31.3.
The rest of Maritime's point scorers came in a pack between 22nd and 26th place.
Patrick Wisti (Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) led the pack with a time of 30:48.1, and right behind him was
Kyle O'Brien (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington),
Matthew Maidhof (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West), and
Marco Rosado (Lajas, Puerto Rico/Academia San Agustin y Espiritu Santo)Â in 24th, 25th, and 26th place, respectively.
Austen Rohmann (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) was the first Maritime runner outside of the point scorers to cross the finish line in 27th place with a time of 31:22.3.
