The men's and women's cross country teams had a solid performance at the Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships as the men's team finished second and the women barely missed out on a top-five finish with a sixth place finish.
The women's team got the race started at 1 p.m. and
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) set the pace for the Privateers as she finished ninth overall with a time of 26:29.32. Aaron's time got her Second-Team All-Conference recognition.
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) and
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport)Â were the next Maritime runners to cross the finish line as they came across 28th and 29th place, respectively. The duo finished just two seconds apart with times of 28:39.05 and 28:41.48.
Charlotte Anich (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and
Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North)Â rounded out the top-five for the Privateers with times of 31:37.43 and 31:53.86 as they crossed the finish line 47th and 48th, respectively.
Sean Hobson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and
Curtis Bates (Honesdale, Pa./Damascus Christian) were fantastic on the men's side as they finished 5th and 6th overall. The pair finished with times of 28:39.76 and 28:42.34 and earned First-Team All-Conference recognition for their efforts.
Marco Rosado (Lajas, Puerto Rico/Academia San Agustin y Espiritu Santo) and
Kyle O'Brien (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) were the next two to cross the line for the Privateers as they finished 15th and 16th with times of 29:35.5 and 29:37, just barely missing out on All-Conference recognition.
Alexander Fallon (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) finished up the top-five for Maritime with a 23rd place finish and a time of 29:52.
The second place finish on the men's side marks the fourth year in a row that the Privateers finished in the top three, while the sixth place mark for the women matches the programs best finish in the last eight seasons.
Maritime gets back on the course next Saturday for the ECAC Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.
