NEW LONDON, Conn. - After qualifying for the MAC championships again this year in both smallbore and air gun, the Maritime Rifle team traveled to Coast Guard for the finals this past Saturday. The team competed against Yale in the sharpshooter class for the smallbore title and MIT in the Expert class for air gun.
Maritime brought seniors
Bradley Boomhower (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville),
Cam Albrant (Northville, Mich./Northville),
Vincent Liang (Taiwan/Benjamin N. Cardozo), junior
David Tindall (Bear, Del./Delaware Military Academy) and freshman
Brandon Hyner () to the competition, with three of the five shooting their personal bests to defeat Yale for the sharpshooter title by a 2031-1959 score. Tindall shot a team-best 539, followed by Boomhower with a 518, Albrant with a 509, Hyner with a 467, and Liang with a 465.
Air gun saw an evenly matched battle based on competition from during the regular season which pitted Maritime against the Engineers from MIT. Boomhower shot on the first relay was only able to muster a score of 522. However, on the following relay Tindall shot a 543, while Liang and Hyner both shot personal bests with a 545 and 540, respectively. Albrant finished his career as he also posted a personal best with a 550, nearly 35 points above his personal average. MIT shot their best air gun score of the year, but so did the Privateers, who won the match by two points at 2178 to 2176.
