THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - Two weeks ago the Maritime rifle team travelled to Albany, N.Y. for a three-way match against Canisius and Wentworth. The team went head-to-head with the Golden Griffins of Canisius and prevailed in both Airgun and Smallbore.
Â
During the smallbore event, Maritime posted a 2175 as the Privateers bested Canisius with 1871 points. During the match,
Bradley Boomhower (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) shot a 528, with
Wyatt Bohmann (Lafayette, N.J.) shooting a 526,
Grant Frolich () and
David Tindall () both scored a 496.
Kellen Rice () and
Cam Albrant (/Northville) finished with a 485 and 469, respectively.
Â
In airgun, the team posted a score of 2139, winning the match by almost 300 points as Canisius scored 1848. Tindall led the way with a 542, followed by Bohmann with a 536. Boomhower shot a 535, with Frolich scoring a 525, Rice with a 518, and Albrant with a 487.
Â
Last weekend, Maritime followed that up with its best airgun score in program history with a team total of 2185. The total in the smallbore score for the Privateers was a 2067, just 18 points shy of the program record as Maritime put together a historic weekend against Coast Guard and John Jay.
Â
Leading the historic score for airgun was Boomhower with a 556, with Bohmann just five points behind at 551. Frolich and Rice also scored matching 539's to propel Maritime to its 2185 points. The point total was not enough as the team fell in its head-to-head with Coast Guard, 2290 to 2185.
Â
Maritime's airgun score of 2185 was also calculated against Wentworth as Maritime scored a win, with the Leopards scoring just 2026.
Â
In smallbore, Boomhower collected a score of 537, with Bohmann registering a 523. Frolich scored a 522 and
Vincent Liang (Taiwan/Benjamin N. Cardozo) scored a 485. The team total of 2067 was not enough to get past Coast Guard as the Bears scored a 2219 in smallbore. Also at the match was John Jay, who also earned a win over Maritime with a 2174 to Maritime's 2067.
Â
Maritime's last match before the winter recess will be on December 5, when the Privateers go head-to-head with the John Jay Bloodhounds at home competing in air rifle only. This will be just the second home meet for the Privateers in as many seasons, after a lengthy stint with no matches for the Privateers on the Throggs Neck Peninsula.
