NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their 2017 half of the conference schedule on Friday evening, as the team swam against the Mount St. Mary Knights at the Kaplan Center Pool.
Maritime's men's team earned its fifth conference win of the season as the Privateers defeated the Knights by a score of 128-76, winning six of the 11 contested events. The women's team fell to the Knights by a 148-52 score, with junior
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) earning the team's lone win of the night in the 200 individual medley.

Sophomore
Stephen Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) won in the 1,000 freestyle while junior
Kevin Wu (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) registered a win in the 50 free. Junior
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) picked up the win in the 100 butterfly, with freshman
Caelan Troy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and junior
John Accetta (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg) recording wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke respectively. The Privateers capped off the night with a win in the 200 freestyle relay with a four-second margin of victory.
The men's squad started out with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay as freshman
Ben Loutzenhiser (Erie, Pa./General McLane), junior
John Accetta (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg) and classmates
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) and Wu notched a 1:46.30 to earn four points in the event. Seniors
Andrew Katz (Greenlawn, N.Y./Glenn-Elwood) and
James Conway (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) combined with sophomores
Ian Folan (Bethel, Conn./Notre Dame) and
Adam Durrua (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) for a third place finish with a time of 1:50.47.
Kelleher was up next and took first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:10.71, followed by junior
Tristan DeYoung (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) at 11:54.69. Junior
Spencer Blass (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) took second in the 200 freestyle with a sub-two minute time of 1:58.68, Troy and freshman
Derrick Kennedy (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) took third and fourth.
In the 50 freestyle Wu notched a win as he came to the finish with a time of 22.53 to claim another nine points for the Privateers. Durrua led Maritime in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.89, which was second best in the event. Marino got Maritime its third win of the night in the 100 butterfly, as he paced the field with a 59.34, with Durrua and sophomore
Tyler Verheyleweghen (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Tarpon Springs) taking second and third. Senior
Doug Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) followed with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle as he scored a 53.81, followed by Blass with a 55.98.
Troy secured a win in the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.10, as Katz was one second off at 1:01.10. Kelleher took second in the 500 freestyle with a 5:15.16, with DeYoung recording a time of 5:50.74 for a third place finish. Accetta capped off the individual competition with a win in the 100 breaststroke at 1:06.17, followed by Folan with a 1:08.45.
Maritime closed out the meet with the 200 freestyle relay which saw Marino, Troy, Russell and Wu pick up the win with a time of 1:34.44. The Privateers also took second with a time of 1:38.21 as Blass, Conway, Katz and Kelleher collected the final four points of the night for Maritime.
Women's Recap
Facing off against one of the top women's teams in the conference, Maritime was only able to pull off one win as Aaron took first in the individual medley with a time of 2:33.15.
The Privateers opened the meet with a 2:23.41 in the medley relay as freshman
Ashley Giorgio (Islip, N.Y./Islip), junior
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport), Aaron and freshman
Anna Curran (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) were the top Privateer quartet to record a time.
In the 1,000 freestyle it was Curran to pace the Privateers with a fourth place finish at 14:05.99, Giorgio followed with a fourth place finish to lead Maritime in the 200 freestyle as she clocked in at 2:50.99.
Freshman
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) was just a half-second off the lead in the 50 freestyle as she came to the wall with a time of 27.60, sophomore
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) was third overall with a time of 29.34. Aaron was up next and powered to a top finish in the 200 individual medley as the only Privateer entry in the pool. Aaron competed shortly after in the 100 butterfly and took third with a 1:14.47.
In the 100 freestyle it was once again Brow to lead the Privateers as she took second overall with a time of 59.65, followed by Zink, who was third, with a time of 1:03.79. Junior
Megan Alicea (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) led Maritime in the 100 backstroke registering a time of 1:28.58, while Curran and junior
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 500 freestyle. Zink was Maritime's lone entry in the 100 breaststroke and clocked in at 1:21.24 for a four-point second-place finish.
The freestyle relay team capped off the night as Davis, Thompson, Brow, and sophomore
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep) took third with a time of 2:06.56 to take the final two points for the Privateers in the event.
Maritime's men's team is now 6-2 overall, and 5-1 in Skyline meets, while the women's team is 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference competition will be back in action following the winter break. The Privateers will prepare for the Skyline Conference Championships on January 26-27 with the championships being hosted by Purchase College.
