KINGS POINT, NY – One week after competing in the Skyline Conference Championships, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to the United States Merchant Marine Academy's Sue Petersen Lubow Pool for the USMMA Memorial Invitational. Competing against SUNY Cortland, Kutztown, TCNJ and host Merchant Marine, the Privateers posted several strong performances.
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) followed up his two Skyline titles by taking second in the 200 yard breaststroke. His time was 2:12.27. Hayes also placed third in the 200 yard individual medley (2:00.70) and fifth in the 50 yard freestyle (22.36).
Parker Endress (Hamburg, NY) was fourth in the 400 yard individual medley (5:22.87) and eighth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:36.97), while
Alex Osypenko (Oyster Bay, NY) finished seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:17.10).
In the 200 yard backstroke,
Liam MacManus (Islip, NY) and
Victor Pineda (Bronx, NY) went sixth and seventh. MacManus registered a time of 2:27.24, and Pineda posted a 2:31.02 clocking.
Brendan Twomey (Floral Park, NY) grabbed eighth place in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:58.89), while
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) secured eighth place in the 500 yard freestyle (5:40.13).
On the women's side,
Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY) was Maritime's top performer. She finished seventh in the 200 yard breaststroke (3:03.62) and 11
th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:23.48).
Emily Bryant (Hilliard, OH) ended up eighth in the 200 yard backstroke (3:06.62), and
Kristen Carroll (New York, NY) placed ninth in the 200 breaststroke (3:12.16).
The Privateers have one meet remaining on the schedule. Maritime heads to Rutgers University for the annual Metropolitan Championships from Feb. 13-15.
