LEWISBURG, PA – Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) of the Maritime College men's swimming & diving team concluded his season by competing at the ECAC Championships for the second straight year from Feb. 27-March 1. He took part in three individual events and set two school records while qualifying for a pair of "B" finals. Overall, the Privateers broke three program records at the meet, which was held at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Hayes just missed making the "A" final after finishing ninth in the preliminary round with a 56.02-second clocking. He improved his time to a school-record 55.96 seconds in the "B" final, which was good for 10
th place overall.
Hayes advanced to the "B" final in 200 yard breaststroke, as well, after posting the 12
th-best time of the preliminaries (2:05.35). In the "B" final, he registered a 2:05.22 clocking to place 12
th overall. His third event was the 200 yard individual medley, where Hayes finished 21
st in the preliminary round with a program-record time of 1:57.97.
Maritime also had a relay squad qualify for the meet. The quartet of
Michael Saharov (Staten Island, NY), Hayes,
Alex Osypenko (Oyster Bay, NY) and
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) took 12
th in the preliminaries of the 200 yard medley relay (1:41.33). In the "B" final, they set a school record with a time of 1:39.84 to finish in 13
th place.
The Privateers tallied 20 points to tie for 15
th place in the team standings. It was Maritime's first time ever recording a team score at the ECAC Championships.
