Maritime Snags Three Skyline Weekly Awards

THROGGS NECK, NY – After the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Sarah Lawrence in the home-opening dual meet on Saturday, three Privateers have been honored by the Skyline Conference.  Junior Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) was chosen as the Men's Swimmer of the Week, while sophomore Johnny Walz (Staten Island, NY) earned a Men's Diver of the Week nod.  Maritime took home both Diver of the Week awards, as freshman Kelly Kelly (Madison, CT) was recognized on the women's side.

Klimek won three events against the Gryphons.  He took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a 1:54.43 clocking, then added a victory in the 500 yard freestyle (5:32.73).  Klimek was also on the winning 200 yard freestyle relay squad that finished in 1:35.47.

Walz took first in both diving events on Saturday.  He scored 178.10 points on the 1-meter board before tallying 231.75 points in the 3-meter competition.  That score is among the 50 best in all of Division III this season.  In addition, Walz swam the 100 yard freestyle, placing first in 56.04 seconds.

Kelly contributed nine points to the team total with her victory in 1-meter diving, as the Privateers beat Sarah Lawrence in a dual meet for the first time since 2019.  Her score was 186.00 points.

Maritime has its second straight home meet on Thursday.  Baruch will visit the Riesenberg Aquatics Center beginning at 6 p.m.
