THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams opened up Skyline Conference competition on Tuesday evening inside the Riesenberg Aquatic Center on the Maritime College campus against the Purchase Panthers and the St. Joseph's (Bklyn) Bears.
The Privateers put forth a strong effort as the men's team swept Purchase and St. Joseph's (Bklyn), knocking off the Panthers 119-37 and defeating the Bears 118-12. The women's team also had a successful evening as the Maritime beat Purchase by a 134-58 score, and also defeated St. Joseph's (Bklyn) by a 125-64 score.
The men's team registered the fastest times in all 11 of the teams events, while the women's team took first in nine of the 11 events contested including both relay results.
Men's Recap
The men's team dominated the night with the fastest times in each of the 11 events on the night. Sophomore
Stephen Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) led Maritime with two victories, while the Privateers also got wins from senior

The night began with the 200 medley relay with Loutzenhiser, Accetta, Marino and Wu pacing the field with a 1:46.67, just four seconds ahead of Maritime's second relay of senior

Ian Folan (Bethel, Conn./Notre Dame), sophomore
Matt Hart (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), and Russell with a 1:51.11.
Kelleher picked up his first win of the night in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:03.45, which was 28 seconds better than Troy's time of 11:31.96. Durrua scored his win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.15, while junior
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) took second with a 2:10.40.
Wu notched a dominant win in the 50 freestyle at the time of 22.91, more than five seconds better than his closest competition. Sophomore
Logan Riales (Bonham, Texas/Maury (Va.)) took third with a 28.52. Marino picked up a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.72, just five seconds ahead of Hart, who took second with a 2:18.56.
Loutzenhiser secured a strong win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.00, while Durrua was not far behind with a sub-minute time of 59.57. Russell picked up the victory in the 100 freestyle with a 51.34, while junior
Spencer Blass (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) notched a 52.96.
Troy registered the next win for the Privateers with a 1:01.00 in the 100 backstroke, while sophomore
Nicholas Mastronikolas (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) took second with a 1:07.84. The men's 500 freestyle saw Kelleher secure his second individual win of the night with a 5:15.20 in the event, while freshman
Derrick Kennedy (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) took second with a 5:48.74.
Accetta made it a perfect night for the Privateers in the individual events with a time of 1:06.79 in the 100 breaststroke, with Folan just two seconds off the mark at 1:08.89.
The Privateers stormed through the 200 freestyle relay with its two entries as Wu, Kelleher, Troy, and Marino led the way with a time of 1:34.13. The second Privateer relay of Blass, Katz, junior
Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway) and senior
Merrick Kovatch (Frankford, Del./Indian River) took second at 1:38.76.
Women's Recap
The women's team was victorious on the night picking up two Skyline Conference wins as the Privateers defeated the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears by a score of 125-64. Maritime also defeated the Purchase Panthers 134-58.
On the night Maritime won both the medley relay and the freestyle relay. The Privateers took first place in seven of the nine individual events.
Junior
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) won the 200 freestyle as well as the 100 butterfly, classmate
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) took first place in the 200 individual medley and also the 500 freestyle. Freshman
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) also had two victories as she won the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, while fellow rookie
Parrish Stinson (Washington, D.C./School without Walls) took first place in the 1,000 freestyle.
The Privateers opened the night with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay led by freshman
Margaret Stinson (Washington, D.C./School without Walls), with Zink, Aaron, and Brow in a time of 2:06.98. P. Stinson won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 13:48.37, fellow freshman
Anna Curran (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) came in second with a time of 14:01.13.
Aaron took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:13.66, while junior
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) finished second with a time of 2:31.36. In the 50 freestyle Brow came in first with a time of 27.65, followed by sophomore
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) finishing right behind in second place with a time of 29.17.
Zink won the 200 individual medley by just .07 seconds with a time of 2:32.11; M. Stinson took fourth place at 2:44.56. Aaron registered her second first place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.80, while P. Stinson took third with a time of 1:12.79.
Brow won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.31 giving her a second victory on the night, while Thompson took third place with a 1:07.98. In the 100 backstroke sophomore
Bethany Champlin (Bronx, N.Y./Saint Vincent) led Maritime with a third place time of 1:27.44.
In the 500 freestyle Zink got the Privateers won her second event on the night, taking first place with a time of 6:21.95. M. Stinson paced the Privateers in the 100 breaststroke finishing in third place with a time of 1:27.21.
To close out the meet, Maritime won the 200 yard freestyle relay led by P. Stinson, Curran, Champlin, and Thompson as the quartet finished with a time of 1:57.77.
Maritime will return to action on Monday evening, when the team travels to Long Island to go head-to-head with the Old Westbury Panthers for a 6 p.m. start from the Clark Athletic Center.
