NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking part in the Mount St. Mary Knight Invitational from Hudson Valley Sports Dome.
Returning to the site of their 2015 Skyline Conference Championship, the Maritime men's team placed third, running along the 8K course. The women's cross country team ended in 14th position at the meet on Saturday.
Sophomore
Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) led the way for the Privateers with a 28:38.0 during the race of 6,000 meters. Freshman
Bethany Champlin () was up next with a time of 28:46.0 in her second-straight 6K run.
Sophomore
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) was third for Maritime with a time of 29:28.0, followed by classmate
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) with a 33:01.0. The final scoring position belonged to freshman
Erin Teige (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Dominican Academy) with a time of 36:41 on the hill-filled course at the sports dome.
Sophomore
Riley Huang (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) added a time of 42:31 for the Privateers, and was just outside of scoring position for Maritime.
Freshman
Sean Hobson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) put together a strong effort to lead the Privateers as he placed fourth individually during the men's race. Hobson recorded a season-best time of 28:21.0 for Maritime's first scoring position.
Fellow freshmen
Kyle O'Brien (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and
Bryan Tornatore (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeyoye Falls-Lima) were just off of Hobson's pace as O'Brien finished in 12th position with a time of 29:15.0. Tornatore picked up a time of 29:35.0 as he placed 18th individually at the meet.
Rookies
Marco Rosado (Lajas, Puerto Rico/Academia San Agustin y Espiritu Santo) posted a time of 30:40.0, followed right behind by classmate
Derek Nielsen (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Stissing Mountain) at 30:41.0 to round out the scoring positions for the Privateers.
Sophomore
Vincent Cotrone (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) was across the line next for the Privateers with a time of 31:14.0, with junior
Timmy Montera (Bellmore, N.Y./Bellmore JFK) next with a time of 31:28.0. Sophomore
Christian Berglin (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) was next time a time of 32:01.0, with senior
Kevin Sun (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) next in line for Maritime with a 32:21.0 to round out Maritime's men's race.
With the conclusion of the Mount St. Mary Knight Invitational on Saturday, the Privateers will be off next weekend in advance of their first trip of the year to Long Island. Maritime will take part in the St. Joseph's (LI) Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park on Saturday, October 15 in Kings Park, N.Y.
