THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime football team gets its 10th season underway on Saturday afternoon when the team plays host to the Maine Maritime Mariners on Reinhart Field.
 
The team enters off of a 4-6 overall record in 2014, and will look to earn its second-ever Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Championship in 2015. The team will return several key pieces from a year ago, while also adding a crop of talented newcomers into the fold.
 
This year begins with a matchup against Maine Maritime, as the two sea-faring schools will meet for the first time in team history on Saturday afternoon.
 
Maine Maritime comes in off a 3-6 season a year ago, with wins coming over Anna Maria, Coast Guard and Nichols last season.

Head-to-Head 
Coin FlipPrior to the game Maritime Alum Bill Quinn '73 will be on hand for the ceremonial coin flip. Quinn graduated Maritime with a degree in Marine Transportation and earned his U.S. Coast Guard Third Mates License. He later went on and founded Greenwich Shipping Services in Island Park, N.Y. in 1999, and still serves as President and CEO of the organization.

Diogo Dietrich (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/DePaul Catholic (N.J.)) shattered numerous records in 2014 including the longest field goal in program history with a 49-yard boot against William Paterson in the 2014 opener. After the season, Dietrich went on to be named the ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, he also earned D3football.com All-Region honors, and was later named the program's first All-American as he was selected to the nation's third team.
DE!-FENSE!Maritime comes in off its single-game best defensive performance of 88 yards allowed to Gallaudet in the season finale last year. In the game, 
Kameron Knight (Clayton, N.C./West Johnson) led the team with nine tackles; defensive backs 
Garrett Stryzs (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) added three, while 
Patrick Connick (Spanish Fort, Ala./Spanish Fort) and 
Sam Feliciano (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) each recorded two tackles in the win.
 
Who's Got the Rock?With the departures of All-Conference players 
Kyle Gardner (Amityville N.Y./St. Anthony’s) and 
Greg Caneparo (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet), the Maritime backfield will have a new look to it in 2015. 
Brett McKinney (Westernville, N.Y./Rome Free Academy), 
Nick Fischetti (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and 
Krystian Cardinal-Charles (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls) will look to get the bulk of the work out of the backfield to start the season.
