POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Aug. 29, 2014) – The Maritime men's soccer team dropped its 2014 season-opening game up at Vassar College on Friday afternoon by the final score of 2-0. The Privateers nearly escaped the first half even at zero on the scoreboard despite a barrage of shots by the Brewers, but the home team found the back of the net off a header by senior Andre Cousineau late in the half, in the 43rd minute.

The tally was assisted by freshman Reid Smith, who sent a cross in from the right side of the 18-yard box that met Cousineau's head, who then directed it into the left side of the net. Vassar took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break and held a commanding 11-0 advantage in shots after 45 minutes.

Vassar's second goal of the game came in the 64th minute, when, positioned on the right side of the box, senior captain Justin Mitchell finished off a cross from the left side by junior Gavin Jennings. Vassar would control play throughout the rest of the game, allowing just two Maritime shots late in the game.

The Privateers' junior keeper Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was busy throughout the contest. He ended the night with six saves. In net for the Brewers, sophomore Adam Warner made one save in the victory.

Maritime returns to action on Wednesday night, Sept. 3, with a road game at nearby Lehman College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at the Lightning's South Field. Live stats are available for the contest by visiting http://www.sidearmstats.com/lehman/msoc/.
