THROGGS NECK, N.Y (April 29, 2014) – For the third consecutive season the Maritime baseball team is headed back to the Skyline Conference Tournament, with each of the first round matchups coming against the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles.
The two sides will duel once again to open the league tournament on
Wednesday evening at Alfano Field in Patchogue, N.Y. at 6:00 p.m (

The winner of Wednesday's game will move on to take on top-seeded Old Westbury at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury, N.Y. on Friday afternoon as part of the double elimination portion of the Skyline Conference Tournament.
Maritime finished the regular season with a 13-18 overall mark and a 9-7 record in Skyline Conference play. The team finished in a tie for fourth in the overall standings, but league tiebreakers game home-field advantage to St. Joseph's in the league's 4 vs. 5 matchup in the six-team tournament.
Old Westbury with its pair of wins on Saturday against Maritime clinched the No. 1 overall seed, while Purchase finished second in the league. Farmingdale finished third and will host Mount St. Vincent in the 3 vs. 6 matchup, also on Wednesday evening.
Scouting the PrivateersLeading Maritime offensively is senior
Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) with a team-leading .363 batting average. Galli also has a team-best 41 hits, seven doubles, .478 slugging percentage and is third on the team with 10 stolen bases.
Freshman third baseman
Brian McLaughlin (Massapequa, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) holds the team-high with 26 RBIs, while ending the regular season with a .313 batting average and is second to Galli with 40 total bases. Junior
Joe Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) is also hitting above .300 with 28 hits in 91 at bats and also has 18 RBIs and also has 11 stolen bases in as many attempts.
Senior
Tom Bauer (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur), juniors
Albert Doerbecker (Point Lookout, N.Y./Long Beach),
Matthew Sollin (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side),
Pat Kirk (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep), and sophomore
Paul Woodburn (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) have all collected at least 10 RBIs on the season to lengthen the balanced lineup. Bauer also leads the team with 29 walks while Sollins has reached base on 24 walks during the season. Sophomore
Bruce Tyler (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) leads the squad with a .455 on-base percentage as he has 14 hits, 10 walks and been hit by 11 pitches.
On the hill, seniors
Nick Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and
Trevor Cannella (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) made headlines earlier this season with a perfect game and no-hitter respectively and have been two of the Privateers most consistent starters throughout the season. Sarna has three wins with a 3.82 ERA in 37 2/3 innings worth of work, while Cannella has a pair of wins with a 3.90 ERA in 30 innings on the mound.
Senior
Kurt Niemeyer (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet Senior) was tied for the team lead with nine appearances as well as seven starts, while accumulating a team-high 43 innings over the course of the season. Junior
Ryan Alsdorf (Bethel, N.Y./Sullivan West) finished the season with the team leading 3.15 ERA with three wins in 34 1/3 innings.
Juniors
Paul Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and
James Very (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) lead the bullpen group with eight relief appearances each. Pfundstein tossed 28 innings and struck out 17 batters, while Very struck out 12 over his 16 2/3 innings of work.
Scouting the Golden EaglesSt. Joseph's entered Tuesday with a 16-17 overall record and a 9-7 league mark, including a 1-1 record against Maritime.
Offensively senior Dan Diblasi spearheads the Golden Eagle offense with a .361 average and has a team-leading 23 RBIs. Thomas Rubinstein is second on the team with 15 RBIs. Junior Anthony Andreani, and freshman Brian Godoy have amassed 13 RBIs each for the team as well, while junior catcher Mike Aloisio has 12 runs driven in.
Dibasi also leads the team in many pitching categories as well including 44 innings pitcher and also has a 2.86 ERA and finished with 29 strikeouts to end the year second on the team. Junior Steven Szobesky led the team with 30 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings while accumulating a 3.82 ERA.
The bullpen is led by senior Frank Trionfo with four saves in 11 appearances and also has an impressive 10.57 strikeouts per nine innings. Junior Matt Mills is second out of the pen with a 4.05 ERA in 20 innings of work while striking out 14 batters.
