Women's Lacrosse Picked Off by Farmingdale in League Action

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (March 29, 2014) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team fell to 0-2 in Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a loss to the Farmingdale Rams on Saturday afternoon by the score of 13-3.

The Privateers were led by freshman Jane Quinn (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), who finished the game with two goals, while sophomore Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) collected the other Maritime goal on the contest. Quinn and Lavelle were both credited with a team-leading two draw controls apiece, while senior Theresa D'Amore (Blooming Grove, N.Y./Washingtonville) led the team with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Farmingdale started the game off with eight goals through the first 14:17 of action in the opening period, and took its 8-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. In the opening half, sophomore goalkeeper Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made four saves.

In the second half, Farmingdale opened up the scoring with its ninth goal of the game, but Maritime responded with a pair of strikes. The first goal came from Lavelle on a free position shot with just under three minutes gone by in the half. Quinn picked up her first of the game just 55 seconds later to trim the Ram lead to 9-2.

The Rams rattled off four more goals in a row to take a 13-2 advantage with 1:17 left in regulation. Twenty-six seconds later, the scoring was capped off as Quinn picked up her second tally of the game on a free position attempt to cap off the scoring at 13-3.

For the game, Paczkowski finished the contest with nine saves while suffering her fifth loss of the season against two wins. In goal for Farmingdale, Krista Spagnoletta collected the win without making a save through the first 30 minutes of play, Georgia Kalamidas picked up four saves in the second half while allowing all three Maritime goals.

Maritime (2-5, 0-2 Skyline) will play its next contest on Tuesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. when the team takes on Mount St. Mary in Newburgh, N.Y. Farmingdale (10-1, 2-0 Skyline) will head to the road to take on Mount St. Vincent on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. from Tibbett's Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y.
