LAST GAME RECAP
Maritime hits the road against Farmingdale and John Jay both for the first time this season while riding a two game winning streak.
Last Tuesday, senior pitcher
Nick Sarna (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) grabbed the win after striking out five while hurling seven perfect innings in the team's first Skyline game of the season against Yeshiva. Second basemen
Joe Longo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) drove in six runs on two hits, including a bases loaded triple in the seventh inning. The Privateers took down the Maccabees with a final score of 13-0.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
The Rams enter the first Skyline contest of the season against the Privateers with an overall record of 8-3. Like Maritime, they go into the game riding a two game winning streak with victories over New Paltz and more recently Nichols.
Pitcher Kevin Cashman got the win after throwing 4.2 scoreless innings to close out the contest against Nichols. Senior outfielder Edward Bergmann plated what wound up being the game winning run with a double in the 6th that scored first basemen Daniel Paccione. Freshman outfielder Richard Sullivan and junior outfielder Michael Marino each added a pair of hits to help lift the Rams over Nichols.
SCOUTING THE BLOODHOUNDS
John Jay heads into a doubleheader with Maritime on Sunday with a record of 1-8 overall, 1-1 in CUNYAC conference play. In the Bloodhounds last contest they were defeated by the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent at home, 7-0.
On the season, junior catcher Nestor Amarante leads John Jay in several offensive categories including hits with 10 and RBIs with seven. In addition to being one of the team's most productive hitters at the dish with nine hits, a team leading .433 slugging percentage, and the team's lone homerun, senior Nico Rivera is also one of the Bloodhound's best pitchers. He leads John Jay in innings pitched, strikeouts, batting average against, and earned run average.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Privateers have yet to defeat Farmingdale State in a series that dates back to 1967. The Rams have won all 23 games played, including both in a doubleheader last season at Reinhart Field, 10-6 and 16-9.
Against John Jay, Maritime has had more success, but they still trail the all-time series, 5-2. In 2013, the Privateers defeated the Bloodhounds, 7-2, in a home game on March 20.
