THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 14, 2014) – The Maritime women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season with an 11-7 win over Elms Blazers on Friday afternoon on Reinhart Field.
The Privateers were led by sophomore 
Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) with four goals and one assist, while freshman 
Jane Quinn (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) was second on the team with three goals. Sophomore 
Savannah Hardwick (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) also added two goals on the afternoon.
Maritime led off the scoring as freshman 
Hannah Pell (Southampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) picked up her third goal of the season just under two minutes into the game. Freshman 
Tina Kang (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) put the Privateers ahead by a pair several minutes later to give Maritime a 2-0 edge. Elms picked up two unanswered goal to even up the game with 18:32 left in the first half.
The Privateers scored the next six goals in the game as Hardwick started off the rally with 17:11 to go in the period. Lavelle then scored the next three goals of the game to help Maritime balloon the lead up to 6-2. With less than a minute to go in the half, Quinn picked up her fifth goal of the season to send Maritime into the locker room with a 7-2 advantage.
Lavelle started off the second half with her fourth goal of the game on a free position shot at 27:20 of the second half. Elms netted two quick goals, but Hardwick picked up her second of the game less than a minute later on a free position to put the Privateers back ahead by five goals.
Over the final 10 minutes of the game, Elms outscored the Privateers by a 3-2 margin with both of Maritime's goals coming from Quinn. There was no scoring in the final 11 minutes of the game as Maritime held off the Blazers for the 11-7 victory.
Final stats saw the Privateers outshoot Maritime by a 32-22 differential with Maritime holding the edge ground balls at 31-24. Clears were held by the Privateers as well with 16 to the 14 converted by the Blazers. Both teams converted on three position shots, while Elms led in terms of draw controls at 12-8.
In goal, 
Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (1-2) collected 12 saves, including 10 in the first half, to pick up the win while allowing seven goals. Sarah Carpenter (1-2) took the loss despite making 16 saves in the game, while allowing the 11 Maritime goals.
Maritime (1-2, 0-0 Skyline) takes on Wilkes in its next game on Wednesday, March 19 at 4:30 p.m. on Reinhart Field. Elms (1-2, 0-0 NECC) travels to take on Wentworth on Tuesday, March 18 with a 7 p.m. start.
