PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (February 4, 2014) – Three Maritime basketball players reached double-figures in points, but it wasn't enough as the Privateers fell on the road to the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles by the score of 67-52 in a back-and-forth battle that saw 13 combined lead changes on Tuesday evening.

Leading the team in scoring was freshman Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) with 13 points, while junior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) added 12 points, and classmate T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) collected 11 points. On the board, freshman Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) pulled down a team-high eight, and was followed closely by classmate Kevin Heine (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), who finished the game with seven boards.

Corley led the game off with a jumper just over a minute into the game to put the Privateers up by a 2-0 score. After St. Joseph's answered back, Corley drained another shot to keep Maritime ahead by a bucket.

The Golden Eagles tried to put some distance in the score but could only get ahead by four on several occasions before Halligan buried a three, to pull within one with 12:34 to go in the opening half. After a missed basket by St. Joseph's, Maritime got the ball back and sophomore Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) put up a shot to put the Privateers ahead once again.

The lead see-sawed back and forth as neither side could take more than a four-point advantage. McNamara stepped back for a three-pointer with just under three minutes left in the half to give the lead back to Maritime, followed by Parlow sinking a jumper to put the Privateers up by two after a good Golden Eagle free throw. St. Joseph's put down one more free throw before the break to head into the locker room with Maritime leading 28-27.

In the second half, Maritime and St. Joseph's exchanged the lead several times in the early stages of the period. With the score tied at 32, Gibson gave the Privateers a two-point edge, and followed that up with another jumper with 16:38 to go in regulation. Halligan became the first player in the game to give their team a lead larger than four points as he sank a pair from the charity stripe to make the score 38-32.

St. Joseph's came back and regained a one-point edge at 43-42, but Maritime answered as Corley sank a pair from the line to regain the lead. However, as the period trickled into the final 10 minutes of the game, the Golden Eagles rattled off a 21-6 to take a 64-50 lead with 1:22 left in the game.

Corley drilled a jumper to pull Maritime within a dozen points. The Privateers attempted to foul the Golden Eagles, hoping for several missed on the part of their hosts but St. Joseph's went 3-for-4 at the stripe to take a 67-52 point lead with 30 seconds left before the final horn sounded.

As a team the Privateers shot 33% from the field, while the Golden Eagles were 43% successful in their shots. Total rebounds and assists favored the home team as St. Joseph's had 46 boards in contrast to Maritime's 39, while also collecting 11 assists to the Privateers' five helpers. Turnovers were relatively close as was shooting from beyond the arc and at the free throw line.

Maritime (3-17, 1-12 Skyline) will continue its three-game road swing with a visit to No. 20 Purchase for a 12 p.m. start against Panthers. St. Joseph's (4-14, 4-9 Skyline) will travel the farthest distance for a conference game this coming Saturday as the team will take on Sage in New York's capital city for a 3 p.m. tip.
